Christmas Celebration Cooking. A Practical course for early and first year Practitioners. Tuesday 8th Dec 12.30pm to 3pm Little Bugs Abercorn

£30.00

Join Prairie & Pine for a practical, festive cooking course for practitioners supporting children at Early and First Level. Perfect for planning your setting’s Christmas party, this hands-on session will give you recipes, practical techniques and inspiration to involve children in creating their own celebration buffet.

Led by our chef, Vas, we’ll explore how to make exceptional festive food using simple, wholesome ingredients while minimising ultra-processed party foods. The spirit of Christmas is in making the magic together: mixing, kneading, sharing seasonal aromas and creating food children can proudly offer their friends. These shared experiences build memories alongside skills, making the preparations part of the celebration itself.

You’ll explore food technology through ingredient selection, preparation techniques and the changes that happen when foods are mixed and cooked, with ideas for helping children plan, make, taste and evaluate their creations. We’ll highlight opportunities across Curriculum for Excellence at Early and First Level, connecting cooking with numeracy through weighing, measuring and portioning, and literacy through reading recipes, sequencing instructions and creating menus.

We’ll also share practical guidance for involving children in setting a welcoming party table, arranging plates, cups and cutlery, making decorations and planning how food will be presented and shared. You’ll leave ready to bring these experiences into your own setting, with children at the heart of preparing a Christmas celebration they have helped make.
